IF-16-PEER-985 Silver Hen - This is a really beautiful hen and she's only a yearling. She is medium in size with a solid back, strong vents, etc. and has been vaccinated for paratyphoid (salmonella). Her father (15-LLF-141) is also listed on the auction. See attached pedigree for details.
Since acquiring the Sions a few years ago, I liked them so much that I decided to purchase the parents, grandparents, and other close relatives to many of the birds that I already had. As a result, I now have a number of “extra” birds.
This family of Sions has been maintained and kept straight for about 60 years through a program of line-breeding and inbreeding and strict selection. It was originally founded on the old, well-known and very successful Landing View Loft “Black Eyed Sions”. Over the years, some select Sions from the Charles Heitzman and the Madrona Loft [Paul] Sion lines have been added and blended in. Many, if not most, of the present day birds in this family still have the dark mahogany / chestnut / wine colored eyes, which were so characteristic of the old Landing View “Black Eyed Sions”. These Sions are generally medium or larger in size, although some can be on the smaller side. They possess good backs, strong vents, and wonderful eyes; and, in spite of the many years of linebreeding and inbreeding, they have maintained their strength and vigor. They are also great looking birds which is so typical of the old [Paul] Sion strain.
In the 2017 old bird races, a “straight” yearling Sion hen bred from this family won Champion Bird in the club. She also scored well in the very competitive Central Jersey Combine….winning among others, 50th @ 250 mi vs 168 lofts and 2,567 birds; 77th @ 300 miles vs 134 lofts and 1,898 birds.
If you are looking for a closely line-bred / inbred family to use as a cross or, if you just want to add another “true family” of birds to your loft, you may want to give these Sions some serious consideration.
